A penetrating sealer may last for quite a long time. Reactive chemical sealers last much longer than other sealers because they penetrate the concrete. They wear off only if the substrate surface is wearing off. However, it still may last for a minimum of 10 years or even longer than that. There are epoxy or urethane sealers also. Even they last long, usually ranging from 5 years to 10 years. This depends on the traffic exposure of these sealers. Not all sealers last long. Acrylic-resin sealers have the shortest life, with a low performance of hardly 1 year to 3 years.
A penetrating sealer helps to protect the concrete and offers some additional benefits. It penetrates the concrete while creating a chemical barrier that protects against water, moisture, and salts. Sealers often leave a natural and smooth finish while maintaining the appearance of the surface. Most of the sealers allow vapours to escape and are breathable. Often used for outdoor applications, they protect concrete against the harsh components of the weather. Offering a longer performance life, they need reapplication after a minimum of 5 years of their first application. The longer life span aids in a stronger, cleaner appearance and safeguards the concrete. A good sealer is definitely a promising product.
The basic function of a penetrating sealer is to seal and protect while enhancing concrete surfaces. It protects most outdoor and indoor concrete surfaces. A sealer with a low gloss and no odour is a great sealer. Water-based latex primer sealers are also good. Some of the sealers are suitable for concrete, stone, and brick surfaces also. Those made from a mixture of siloxane and silane can cover almost 250 square feet area in 1 gallon. A sealer that is non-toxic and safe for usage is the best penetrating concrete sealer. It must comprise eco-friendly siloxane with a non-yellowing formula.
